Working at Council

Induction

Our staff induction programme runs for three months and during that time is aimed at giving new staff every opportunity to learn about the Council, ask questions and make suggestions that will help you and us become better at our jobs.

An induction booklet is provided to bring together workplace procedures and practices that will help you 'find your way around' the Council. The following benefits are also available:

Social club

Our social club holds a number of functions through the year for members and partners. It supports teams entering social sports competitions, a children's Christmas party, mystery bus tours and quiz nights. New staff are welcome to join.

Superannuation

The Council supports staff in saving for their retirement through matched Kiwisaver contributions. The level of matching depends on employment agreement type but in some instances up to five percent of the employee's salary.

Health insurance

The Council has a group health insurance scheme with Southern Cross Healthcare. Special membership concessions are available if you join within three months of joining the Council. Payments are deducted from your salary/wage.

Annual leave

To enable staff to achieve work life balance and enjoy their wonderful region, after two years of service staff members start to accrue annual leave at the rate of five weeks per year.

Sick leave

Most staff have ten days sick leave entitlement, twice the amount set by legislation.
