Sustainable Living Programme

The Sustainable Living Programme is a practical and fun way to learn how to reduce your carbon footprint and be kinder to the environment, saving money along the way. Sustainable Living runs relevant evening classes and workshops on single-topic sessions across New Zealand, backed by independent research, local councils and environmental NGOs.

Typical courses are a one term series of two-hour evening sessions (7 to 9 sessions in all) held weekly, led by a skilled tutor. Timings 7pm to 9pm and high school venues, but occasional courses are run in the daytime at community venues.

Topics include:

  • saving energy
  • reducing waste
  • shopping tips
  • travel
  • alternatives to toxic chemicals
  • efficient water use
  • growing food

A comprehensive range of resources are available online at www.sustainableliving.org.nz and Nelson City Council supports a range of sustainable living programmes.
