The Natural Step

a) How we share - treating people fairly (ensure people have the capacity to meet their basic human needs; e.g. safe working conditions, enough money to live on, sufficient resources for future generations)

b) What we take - use less stuff (use less substances extracted from the Earth's crust; e.g. heavy metals and fossil fuels)

c) What we make - use products and materials which nature can process (reduce man made substances that progressively build up in the environment rather than biodegrading; e.g. dioxins, PCBs, and DDT)

d) What we destroy - stop doing it (reduce degradation of nature; e.g. over harvesting forests and fisheries or paving over critical wildlife habitat)
