Free brochure on biocontrol agents now available

December 2008

Landcare Research has prepared a brochure called "Biocontrol Agents for Weeds in New Zealand," a quick reference guide for using one living organism (usually insects or fungi) to control another.

The brochure is available free of charge at the front desk at Council or by calling the Sustainable Land Management Adviser on +64 3 546 0308.

The Nelson City Sustainable Land Management Adviser is available to assist you by providing information and resources to support and promote sustainable land management.

Whatever stage your project is at we may be able to help. At your invitation the Sustainable Land Management Adviser will come out to look over your property, or specific areas of your property.

2008 Weedbusters Regional Award winners

The winners of the 2008 Top of the South Regional Weedbusters Awards are:

  • Excellence Award Nelson/Tasman: Julie McLintock Public Land
  • Excellence Award Marlborough: Margaret Peace of Tuamarina Landcare Group
  • Public Land Award: Margaret Peace of Tuamarina Landcare Group
  • Private Land Award: Forest and Bird Friends of Enner Glynn Bush
  • Education Award: Ngatimoti School
  • Highly commended for the Public Land Award was Wakefield Bush Restoration Society. 
  • Commended for the Public Land Award were FROGS (Friends of The Glen Society) and Murchison Environmental Care Group. 

Winners were awarded prizes courtesy of Titoki Nursery, Mainly Natives Nursery, Tasman District Council, DOC South Marlborough, DOC Sounds, and DOC Nelson Lakes. The regional weedbusters awards will be held again in 2010.
