Rural fencing grants programme

The scope of the Rural Fencing Grants Programme includes protection fencing of existing stands of native vegetation and encompasses areas that property owners wish to revert back to native vegetation.

Fencing of riparian areas and associated planting to limit adverse effects on watercourses and to increase habitats is still a priority.

The Rural Fencing Grants Programme will assist land owners with fencing costs (until June 2009 when the funding will be reviewed). Assistance with land preparation is available, plus 50% subsidy for fencing including gates. Appropriate plants can also be supplied for planting of riparian margins.

If the programme is under-subscribed, Council reserves the right to increase the level of subsidy. Where the fund is over-subscribed, proposals will be ranked based on an assessment carried out by Council staff.
