Help protect the environment and lower event costs by reducing waste at events using the following information when planning your event.
Nelson City Council has a policy of encouraging waste minimisation at both Council and public events. A range of support to achieve this is available through Council.

Transition Nelson, a community action group that develops a more resilient community in the face of climate change and energy scarcity, runs a waste initiative called Bring Your Own Container (BYOC ) that can be used at events to encourage visitors to bring their own cups, plates, etc. For more information on this please contact the Sustainability Coordinator (see below).
A useful leaflet on some of the different types of compostable and biodegradable disposable catering utensils currently available has been produced by Brittany Packer as part of a Bayer Boost scholarship. This leaflet provides information which may assist event organisers in choosing products appropriate to their event should they choose to compost as part of their waste minimisation strategy.
