The new turf at Trafalgar Park takes a step closer to the finish line Monday with the pouring of the first bag of recycled glass sand that forms the turf’s base. Three RWC 2011 teams to get sunny Nelson treatment Nelson will host three teams during Rugby World Cup 2011: Italy, USA, and the Europe 2 qualifier. The Italian team will stay in Nelson 21 nights over two stays from 2-8 September and 16-29 September. The USA team will stay four nights from 24-27 September, and the Europe 2 qualifier is staying two nights, 19 – 20 September.…

[From Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd] Today in Florida, the United States of America (USA) beat Uruguay to secure their position at Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011) as the Americas 2 qualifier. On November 15, the USA won the first of the two match qualification series 27-22 despite a late comback by Uruguay which saw them score 13 points in the final six minutes. Today, Uruguay went down 27-6 in front of the American crowd.…

November update for Nelson RWC 2011 Group steers way for community involvement in RWC 2011 An eight-member steering group has been appointed by Nelson City Council to engage community and business involvement in Rugby World Cup 2011. The Nelson RWC 2011 Steering Group members are: Aldo Miccio, Nelson City Councillor and Steering Group Chair Ali Boswijk, Nelson City Councillor Sara Chapman, Chairman of Tasman Bays Heritage Trust and former strategic planner for Saatchi & Saatchi Shane Drummond, representing Tasman Rugby Union Tim King, Tasman District Councillor Bronwyn Monopoli, chartered accountant Pete Rainey, Nelson City Councillor Barney Thomas, Tangata Whenua Whakat The Steering Group’s role is to involve as many residents, businesses and visitors as possible in the celebration of RWC 2011 in Nelson. While Council staff are dedicated to delivering the fundamentals of two matches, team hosting (TBC), Fan Zones and the festival of Rugby, the Steering Group will lead and coordinate business and community involvement that will help make RWC 2011 in Nelson the premier event of the decade.…

Rugby World Cup project manager appointed The Council has appointed Simon Bruce-Miller to the role of Project Manager - Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011. He begins his full-time role on 14 September, joining the team of staff responsible for the planning and delivery of Nelson's successful bid to host RWC 2011. As project manager, Simon is responsible for coordination of the two RWC 2011 matches, team hosting (still to be advised), the festival of Rugby, and fan zones.…
