What is PressDisplay?

PressDisplay offers the digital editions, on the day of publication, of national and local newspapers published by Fairfax around the world, and in a range of languages. There is good coverage of New Zealand newspapers, including local papers the Nelson Mail and the Leader. Papers are available for 60 days from date of publication, are fully searchable, with print, email, translation and audio options.

 How to access PressDisplay

From the Library home page go to Online Resources/ Research databases. From the A-Z list, locate PressDisplay.
If you are using one of our APNK computers (computers 1-10) click onto the Nelson Public Libraries online resources link and follow the steps above.

Why use a database?

  • The source of the information is authoritative
  • Material is stored and accessible in fulltext for several years
  • Material has been through an editing process and verified

How to use PressDisplay

To find a newspaper

  • Locate the Select Title drop down menu at the top of the screen.
    Select by country, by language or alphabetically. Work through the lists to locate the title you are interested in.

To view a newspaper

  • Click onto the title you want from the lists (see above)
  • To move down the page, use the green slide bar on the right side of the page
  • To turn pages, click the numbered tab on the top right of the page
  • To select a specific section of the paper, click onto one of the thumbnails on the right of the screen.

To read an article

  • Click onto the article text and it will enlarge, or
  • To see a text view of the article (as opposed to an image of the printed version), click onto the article headline. Enlarge the text on the resulting screen by moving the button at the top right of the text (A to A)

To print an article

  • To print an image of the article as printed (warning – the text may be small):
    Locate the printer icon on the “tab holder” at the bottom of the page image. From the 2 options, select “print custom area”, and use the arrow tool to create a box around the area you want to print. On the print box, select “scale to size” and paper size and click print.
  • To print a text view of the article (easier to read, but not an image of the article itself) Click onto the article headline, as above, and on the resulting screen, click on the print icon. You can enlarge the text size before selecting print, and the text will view and print a larger size.

To email, translate or listen to an article

  • Click onto the article headline.
  • At the top of the text view of the article you will see 4 buttons:
    • Share –  allows you to email the article (or blog or share it)
    • Listen – to listen to an audio version of the article
    • Translate – provides a text translation of the article. Select the preferred language.

To Search for an article

  • Locate the drop down Search menu at the top of the screen.
  • Select a search option (by time)
  • In the Find results window, select the newspaper(s) you wish to search, select date or date range.
  • Enter your search terms and click search.
  • The results screen will show all relevant pages which contain your search terms. Click onto the page to view it. The words you searched on will be marked with a red arrow.
