Recycling is not a rubbish collection service. If your bin contains, dirty, hazardous or non-recyclable items it will not be emptied.

Wash, squash and sort your recycling

Glass bottles and jars

  1. Discard Lids -Labels and metal rings around the neck of bottles can stay on.
  2. Wash
  3. Place glass into your recycling bin and put out on glass weeks 

Plastic bottles and jars, metal cans and tins

All plastics 1 - 7 can be recycled.

  1. Discard Lids
  2. Wash - remove all traces of food and solids. Labels can stay on.
  3. Squash
  4. Place non-glass recycling into bin and put out on non-glass weeks 

Paper and light cardboard

  1. Squash
  2. Sort - please help by sorting into:
    • Newspaper
    • Shiny/glossy paper
    • White stationery paper
    • Light cardboard
  3. Bag or tie with string
  4. Place non-glass recycling into bin and put out on non-glass weeks

Corrugated cardboard

  1. Squash
  2. Bundle - use string or tape and bundle no bigger than your bin
  3. Place non-glass recycling into bin and put out on non-glass weeks
