Nelson Events Strategy and Events Marketing and Development Programme

The underlying objective of the Nelson Events Strategy is to stimulate Nelson City’s economy by bringing new spending through visitors coming to Nelson for distinct events in the shoulder and off season.

Background

The Nelson Events Marketing and Development Programme has been established to implement the Nelson Events Strategy. The Programme is funded by the Nelson City Council, with the Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency being the lead agency and Nelson Tasman Tourism being responsible for implementation of the programme.

The Programme is overseen by the Events Management Committee, comprising representatives from the Nelson City Council, Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency and Nelson Tasman Tourism.

Programme Components

The ItsOn website is the Nelson/Tasman region’s major event listing website.  ItsOn is funded by Nelson City Council and supported by Tasman District Council and MORE FM to help promote events in the region. The website receives over 7,600 individual visitors each month, viewing over 45,000 pages. There is no charge to list an event on the website.

Event Organiser Support

Industry tools and resources have been developed to help support all event organisers in the Nelson Tasman region. These include the Event Organiser Handbook and Event Organiser Training Seminars. For more information about organising events click here..

Sponsorship funding

The Nelson Events Marketing and Development Programme provides funding for qualified events within Nelson City Council boundaries to assist them with marketing and development expenses. Events must show they will bring new spending through visitors coming to Nelson in the shoulder and off season.

Events that meet the application requirements and have synergy with the Guiding Principles are eligible to apply for sponsorship. An Events Management Committee is responsible for assessing applications and allocating sponsorship funds. For more information, downloadable materials and application forms visit the ItsOn website..

Funding is available for both signatory and major events, as well as one-off events.

Some of the events which have been successful in receiving sponsorship funding through the Programme include MarchFest, the Winter Music Festival, the South Island Masters Games, the Nelson Cycle Festival and Oi You!
