The Nelson City Physical Activity Fund (NCPAF) has allocated $44,338 to local community sport and recreation groups in the 2011 funding round.

This year the NCPAF committee was able to offer funding to 18 organisations.

The fund, formerly the Hillary Commission Community Sports Fund, is administered by Nelson City Council and provides small grants to groups that offer opportunities and encourage more young people into physical activity.

Funding is being used for coaching, equipment and community events that reach out to young people who would not otherwise be taking part in the activities.

One recipient received funding under the Big Idea Fund. Broadgreen Intermediate with the support of local schools and sporting clubs received $10000 for outdoor exercise equipment to be constructed on the school and Railway reserve.
