Parking changes from 1 July 2011

Regular users of Wakatu Square Car Park need to be aware that as part of Nelson City Council’s aim to better utilise inner city parking, the parking limit will be a maximum of three hours from 1 July.    At the same time, parking fees will rise by 50 cents to $1 an hour for the Montgomery, Buxton, Millers Acre and Wakatu Square car parks, to help pay for an improved public transport service. Parking fees outside of those car parks remains unchanged.…

Trafalgar Park looking good for RWC 2011 matches

Saturday night’s Super Rugby game produced a great result for the Crusaders and was an excellent opportunity to test the temporary stands and traffic management at Trafalgar Park ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2011 matches. 2011/12 Annual Plan adopted

2011 Community Assistance Funding applications open with larger pool

Applications are now open for a larger pool from the Nelson City Council's Community Assistance Funding for 2011/12. This year the funding available for community assistance contracts and one-off grants will be $485,000 after Council raised the budgeted figure by another $44,000 at the Adoption of the Annual Plan yesterday. Of the total amount allocated to community assistance, 10 – 20% will be allocated for one-off grants and the rest for contracts.…

Road closures planned for Crusaders game on Saturday

Nelson City Council and the Tasman Rugby Union will be working together to provide easy and safe pedestrian access to the Super Rugby game on Saturday night at Trafalgar Park. The following closures will be in place: Trafalgar Street will be closed to traffic from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday 25 June between Grove Street and Wainui Street. PLEASE NOTE: Grove Street and Wainui Street will be open as usual.…

Restriction of Nelson Water Supply

To allow for repair work the raw water trunk main from the Maitai Dam will be closed down for up to two days from Tuesday 21 June or Wednesday 22 June, dependent upon the effect of rain in the Roding River catchment. While sufficient water supply from the Roding River and reservoir storage will be available for this period Nelson residents and businesses are asked to avoid unnecessary water usage during Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.…

More rain coming for Nelson

Heavy rain has again been forecast for Nelson for the weekend, so Council is reminding residents to clear leaves and other rubbish from any stormwater grills near their property. "If sumps are blocked, rain water can quickly build up, adding to the risk of flood damage," says Phil Hamblin, Manager Capital Projects. “With the amount of rain we have had this winter, many areas are already very wet so we are asking everyone to be vigilant about keeping storm water drains clear”.…

Intersection Safety Campaign

More than 300 Nelson and Tasman drivers who failed to observe the road rules will be receiving a reminder letter and a fridge magnet which reads “What part of STOP don’t you understand?” as part of an intensive public education campaign to reduce accidents at intersections. The month long promotion also includes the two Mayors taking part in an exercise to see if age or experience makes a difference to how well their driving rates. The event is a collaboration between Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council, the New Zealand Police, the New Zealand Transport Agency and the community group, Road Safe Nelson Bays.…

Council accepts amalgamation decision

Nelson City Council accepts the Local Government Commission’s decision to take the next steps towards the amalgamation of Nelson City and Tasman District Councils. The Commission released its decision today after hearing a range of views just before Christmas and accepting 450 submissions on the proposal. It has been preparing its decision since then.…
