Nelson City Council will be out in force for Nelson Growables Garden Fair on Sunday 15 November from 10am till 5pm at Founders Heritage Park.
In a first for Nelson, the Library is 'digging up' part of its collection and transplanting it for the day to the Energy Centre, offering gardening books and magazines for the public to browse through.
The Energy Centre itself will be the hub of a range of fun hands-on opportunities including Nelson City Council's Weedbusters with quizzes and prizes, as well as
Council's Create Your Own Eden Road Show, explaining the basics of composting, worm farming and the in home Bokashi food composting system.
Other community-run interactive activities will include demonstrations of how to make hanging baskets, companion planting, irrigation, permaculture, trapping and much more.
Central to it all, and a must-do for the event, is the fabulous potting bench where you can get hands on and make your own seedling pot, before planting it to take away. Karen Lee, Council's sustainability Coordinator says " We really applaud the community for putting on this event. From the Council point of view, its all about getting hands-on with composting and food growing - whether you've got a small urban section or a lifestyle block and there will certainly be loads of great opportunities at Nelson Growables this Sunday."
