Join the library

To join the Nelson Public Libraries, simply visit one of our three libraries with personal identification and proof that you reside in Nelson, Tasman or Marlborough, or are a ratepayer in Nelson City, Tasman District or Marlborough. 

  • Photo ID is preferable for personal identification, e.g. a driver's licence or passport.
  • Proof of address should be "official" mail sent to you at your residential address, e.g. a telephone, electricity or rates account.

You will need to complete a short form with one of our friendly staff who will provide you with an information pack.  Joining the library takes about 10 minutes.

If you are under 18, you will need a guarantor to come with you, bringing their personal ID and proof of address, to sign your membership form.  (See Membership Information).
