Crusaders to play March home games at Trafalgar Park

Trafalgar Park will host the Crusaders in the Super 15 rugby competition on 4 and 11 March following the Christchurch AMI Stadium being deemed out of action after Tuesday's devastating earthquake. Nelson Mayor Aldo Miccio says, “Nelson City Council is once again able to offer assistance by providing the Park free of charge to host both Crusaders games. I wish we could be hosting under different circumstances, but perhaps making sure the Crusaders can play a game of rugby will go some way toward giving Cantabrians a break for a few hours.…

Reduced rates at campgrounds for stricken Christchurch residents

In a bid to provide some short term respite for Christchurch residents affected by Tuesday’s massive earthquake, local campgrounds are offering free or reduced rates. Council stays on track with Air Quality plan

Nelson City Council today decided to make only minor adjustments to the Nelson Air Quality Plan in light of the Government’s decision to extend the deadline for achieving the National Environmental Standards (NES) for air quality. Council has asked staff to prepare a plan change that will, subject to the Government issuing the revised NES and to consultation and adoption by Council, see the final phase out date of 2013 for burners installed between 2000 – 2003 removed. However the phase out date at the end of this year (1 Jan 2012) that affects around 750 households will remain in place.…

Rutherford Park Development project approved for public consultation

Council today approved a proposal to consult with the community on the proposed Rutherford Park Development, including a Conference Centre and a Performing Arts Centre, starting with its inclusion in the Draft Annual Plan 2011/12. Council keen to discuss proposed Stoke skatepark

Responding to community requests and following the tremendous success of the Neale Park Skatepark, Council’s now moving to build a skatepark in Stoke.   Council staff are taking to the streets later this month, to gauge the community views on the proposed site on Main Road Stoke. Planning Adviser Britta Hietz says the project is just starting and Council has two major stages to work through with the community, starting with an agreed site selection and then on to designing the park.…

Performing Arts/Conference Centre on the agenda

Following the intention from Councillors to include a proposal for a Rutherford Park Development in the Draft Annual Plan 2011/12, a report on the topic will be discussed at next Thursday’s Governance Committee meeting. The report outlines the process for the project, which includes a proposed Performing Arts/Conference Centre, and contains some estimated costs. Mayor Aldo Miccio says, “Estimated capital costs for the whole project are currently at $58M spread over the next four years, but they also include a significant redevelopment of the entire Rutherford Park complex which would include the proposed Trafalgar Centre northern-end upgrade, a conference facility, improvements to the Maitai River Walkway, and a stand alone performing arts venue.…

At yesterday’s budget workshop for the 2011/12 financial year, Nelson City Councillors indicated they would include a proposal for a Rutherford Park Development including a Performing Arts/Conference Centre in the Draft Annual Plan 2011/12. Nelson Mayor Aldo Miccio is heartily encouraged at the budget outlook as discussions on the Nelson City Council 2011/12 estimated budget start Tuesday 8 February.
