Council contracts Help for Young People at Events and Gathering Spaces, or HYPE-GS. These workers to provide support and education for young people during the late nights and summer months.
HYPE-GS staff are trained and experienced in minimising alcohol and other drug-related harm and are distinctive in their orange t-shirts at the various events and youth venues. Their support includes explaining about the liquor by-laws, advocating for youth on issues with security staff, police and parents; getting them home safely and helping them if they have over-indulged. HYPE-GS workers are non-judgemental and are not affiliated to any religious group.
