Responding to community requests, a new skatepark in Stoke is being planned now – giving Nelson youth another place, in addition to the popular Neale Park skatepark, to get together and enjoy this sociable, healthy and low-cost sport.
The preferred site is at Greenmeadows Reserve, next to the tennis courts on Main Road Stoke.

The Nelson City Council is now reviewing the feedback that has been received from the general public and skatepark users.
After looking for a suitable location in Stoke, the lawn area on Greenmeadow Reserve, in between the tennis court and Main Road Stoke (intersection with Songer Street), has ended up as the top option. It’s considered the most suitable site because of its high visibility, distance from residential neighbours and accessibility.
Once a final site has been selected, we will move to the design stage. A working group of users, Youth Council representatives and stakeholders will be put together to develop a design. This part of the project will start in late February and finish sometime in May. Construction of the park is planned for the next financial year (June 2011 -1 July 2012).
