Framing our Future - Towards Nelson 2060

Is this how we should Frame our Future?

Nelson 2060 comes from the community and aims to develop a healthy, prosperous and happy Nelson over the next fifty years.

Nelson 2060 has been created because we need to think and work in a different way. No one stands alone – we are all connected as part of a living system. We’ll all need to work together to create a future we all want. Because we need everyone to be involved, it’s important that as many people as possible take a look at this draft strategy and see if we’re on the right track.

What does Nelson 2060 cover?

As well as revisiting the vision for Nelson 2060 that Council officially adopted in its Long Term Plan, the strategy outlines 10 goals that will help us reach that vision in 50 years time.

There are some ideas of how we might achieve these goals and some suggestions of how to measure if we’re making progress.

There’s a handy checklist included so any business, organisation or family can check a new project or scheme against and see if it’s something that will take us in the right direction towards our vision.

You can download the draft strategy below or there are hard copies at the Customer Service Centre or any of the Libraries for a read.  What follows is a brief summary of some key points but we encourage you to take a look at the full copy if you’d like to know more.

The Vision

“Nelson 2060 is an inclusive city, with a diverse range of residents who can connect easily to each other and to the beautiful place we call home. Our inclusive leadership style supports our unique approach to living, which is boldly creative, ecologically exemplary, socially balanced and economically prosperous.”

Tell us what you think

Comments closed at 4.30pm Thursday 28 March.  You’ll also have the chance to speak directly to Council about your feedback at a meeting on 9 April if you are keen.

Following that all the feedback will be considered and discussed.  Any changes that are needed will be made to the Nelson 2060 Strategy and it will be signed off. Then the job really starts for us all and we can start putting the ideas into action and heading towards our vision for Nelson in 2060.
