Nelson City and Tasman District Environment Awards

The Councils recognise people in our community who have demonstrated the use of good environmental practice, environmental enhancement and environmental sustainability.

Award categories

In 2009 there are nine categories:

Rural
Schools
Commercial
Neighbourhood / Community
Individuals and families
Heritage - built
Heritage - cultural
Renewable energy
Urban design

Entries into the two heritage award categories should both use the Heritage Award form to apply.

Dates and timelines

Entries are now closed and 86 nominations were received.

The awards ceremony is Friday 20 November 2009 at Woollaston Estate.

Criteria and selection

Criteria differ slightly for each category but in general include

Planning for sustainability
Minimising environmental effects
Sustainable resource use
Innovation and leadership

For each award category, a panel of three judges, which includes one councillor and to relevant 'experts' in the field, will consider the nominations, do site visits as required, and select the winners.

Prizes

In 2009 sponsored prizes to the value of $1,000 will be awarded to the winners of each category, except Heritage where two prizes to the value of $500 are awarded. Successful recipients will be presented their awards at a special ceremony on Friday 20 November 2009 at Woollaston Estate.
