Latest funding approvals

The Creative Communities scheme approved 12 grants in the funding round ending 20 August. Sixteen applications were received. Recipients included:

• Nelson Camera Club ($1,200)
• Community Jewellry Projects ($360)
• Standing Room Only Productions ($775)
• Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival Nelson ($1,000)
• Eastern European Orthodox Church Nelson ($1,000)
• Nelson Civic Choir ($700)
• Inspired Productions ($1,000)
• Tahunanui Kindergarten ($690)
• Women in Nelson ($500)
• Community Art Works ($1,000)
• Oscar Foundation Nelson ($720)
• NZ Combined Choirs and Orchestra ($500)

Funding for arts and culture

Changes have been made to the way Arts Council Nelson administers the Creative Communities Scheme on behalf of Nelson City Council. As of 2009, new rules are in place for Creative Community local arts funding that specify four funding rounds per year.

Council no longer has the two annual closing dates, formerly in February and August, and the monthly rounds of funding, formerly called the Monthly Small Grants Scheme.

Artists will have to plan ahead for the four funding cycles with closing dates as follows

• 20 February
• 20 April
• 20 August
• 20 October
