Following the consideration of submissions and hearings, Council has adopted the policy as originally advertised.
The Rates Remission Policy for Land Affected by Natural Calamity provides Council with the mechanism to provide rates relief for property owners affected by events that the Council determines fall within the scope of the Policy.
The criteria for determining if a property qualifies for rates remission due to the December 2011 rainfall event are:
Council will contact property owners who were issued with a Section 124 notice to advise them of the new policy and the application process.
Applications for rates remission under this policy must be made before 30 June 2012 to be eligible for rates remission for this rating year.
Council is also working proactively with Quotable Value to ensure properties affected by the December flood event are accurately valued in time for the 2012/13 rating year.
