At its 10 December meeting, Council voted against building the Performing Arts and Conference Centre(PACC) at the proposed Rutherford Street site. Instead, Council will begin a search for a new site to construct a PACC. Nearly 600 submissions were received on the proposed $28 million multi-purpose performing arts facility (the Performing Arts and Conference Centre, or PACC). At its 29 October meeting, Council had a split vote on the resolution, and because it felt the number of submissions was not sufficient to be considered a madate for change, tbe number of members elected at the 2010 election shall remain at 13, including the Mayor. After the key projects were adopted in the Nelson Community Plan, Council now considers for adoption the final Strategy document on 20 August. All projects within the Heart of Nelson Strategy were included in the Nelson Community Plan but the final Strategy is still awaiting review and adoption by Council. More than 130 submissions were received on 89 improvements for the city, both small and large. More about the Heart of Nelson strategy.
At its 23 July meeting, Council approved the NRSBU recommendation to seek resource consent for a duplicate pipeline across the estuary. Council held hearings in early June on the Nelson Community Plan - submitters who asked to speak to their submission did so during these hearings. Formerly known as the Long-term Council Community Plan, or LTCCP for short, the Nelson Community Plan 2009/19 is the Council’s ten year planning document that drives all Council activities, outlines how Council will provide services, and summarises Council’s financial allocation and prioritisation process.
