Council reviewed its Social Wellbeing Policy in 2010 and 2011 and a revised policy was adopted on 28 June 2011. It will be considered for review again in 2017.

Council adopted the proposal to change the Nelson Community Plan and the Water Supply Bylaw at its meeting on 17 March, 2011. The changes clarify the circumstances where credit may be provided to ratepayers on their water bill when a leak has resulted in a much higher than usual bill. At its meeting on 29 July 2010 the Council resolved to make Plan Change 15 (Heritage) operative on 9 August 2010. This was publicly notified on 31 July 2010

Approval was given by Council on 29 July 2010 to replace the Engineering Standards with the Land Development Manual. For more information about the Land Development Manual 2010 and the Engineering Standards, including download files and drawing.
Inclusion of art during the development phase of Council projects is now being encouraged, along with exploring potential new arts partnerships, thanks to the new Arts Policy adopted on 15 July . Read more about the Arts Policy.

At its 10 December 2009 meeting, Council voted against building the Performing Arts and Conference Centre(PACC) at the proposed Rutherford Street site. Instead, Council will begin a search for a new site to construct a PACC. Nearly 600 submissions were received on the proposed $28 million multi-purpose performing arts facility (the Performing Arts and Conference Centre, or PACC). Council is required to have a RPS under the Resource Management Act. Its purpose is to give an overview of the main resource management issues in our area and outline how we will achieve sustainable management of natural and physical resources in Nelson. The RPS is reviewed every ten years. Learn more about the review of the Regional Policy Statement.
