About

The Cabbage Trees (ti rakau) were created by noted New Zealand 'corrugated iron' sculptor Jeff Thomson in 2005.

History

The cabbage tree was important to Māori and its leaves were used by guide Kehu to make sandals in the epic exploration he made with Brunner of the Buller River.

Location

The Cabbage Trees are located in Trafalgar Street and Achilles Avenue (which goes through to Wakatu Carpark).
