About Nelson » Business in Nelson
The Council is involved in many activities to promote and encourage a strong and diversified economy - one that provides employment and opportunity for Nelson residents and also meets good environmental practices.
The push is on - Council is making a 12 month effort to spread the word that businesses in Nelson need to display their street number prominently on their premises. The new rule is part of Bylaw 219, adopted in June 2009, that requires commercial premises to obtain street number decals and affix them to a visible spot on the exterior of the shop where people are most likely to see them. It's good business practice! For more, also visit Uniquely Nelson.
The Council has delegated its main business development functions to the EDA, which the Council helped to establish in 2003. The EDA administers projects that foster economic development in Nelson city and, where outside funding is supplied, Tasman District. Visit the EDA website.
