Notable Women Walk

Jane Alice Bond was born in Nelson the third child of William Bond and Elizabeth Percy. She worked as a primary school teacher, first at Hampden Street school and then at Toi Toi School. Ill health brought an early retirement while she was first assistant of the Girl’s Central School.

She had developed an interest in writing when helping her father, the owner and co-editor of the newspaper The Colonist. She published several articles on Nelson's history in the newspaper

Jane was also involved in the Church of England, leaving money in her will to Whareamea Home for the aged and having a wing named after her. She also left money for St Andrew’s orphanage, St John Ambulance, Red Cross and Crippled Children’s Society. Ref Lash Max. Nelson Notables 1840-1940.

In Memory of John Henry Casson Bond died April 17th 1932. And Nancy Beatrix Grant-Taylor only daughter of the above died May 18th 1932 aged 26 years.
