Airshed A (Victory area) is located within a broad valley centred around Victory Square and the Nelson Hospital areas.
It is bounded by the Port Hills, Grampians and by the coast.
It contains mainly older residential housing located on the valley bottom or lower hill slopes. It also contains a small light industrial area in the lower valley.
Historically Airshed A has had the poorest air quality in Nelson contributed to by older homes requiring a greater level of heating and often using older solid fuel fires.
Airshed A required the greatest reduction in PM10 levels and has had the greatest improvement.
