Active Transport Forum

Four times a year a regional forum is held that brings together key stakeholders concerned with cycle safety in the Nelson and Tasman areas. Representatives from both Nelson and Tasman Councils, Transit, Bicycle Nelson Bays, BLIP (bicycle lanes in paradise), cycle retailers and trainers discuss themes and patterns that compromise cyclist safety and worked on finding cooperative and effective solutions to these.

Bicycle Advisory Group (BAG)

Meetings are held every two months and deal with the more day to day issues faced by cyclists. Education, engineering, encouragement and enforcement are all areas covered by this group who aims to promote cycling in Nelson and to reduce cycle crashes in the region.

Membership includes:

  • the NCC Road Safety Co-ordinator
  • Transit rep / OPUS
  • Public Health Representative
  • Bicycle Nelson Bays
  • Cycle retailer rep
  • Police Representative
  • Cycle club representative
  • Keen individual cyclists
